Rhetorical Analysis Reflection

For my rhetorical analysis paper I chose to write on a one of my favorite songs. The song is entitled Confrontation and is written by a band named OTEP. At first I didn’t understand really how to write about ethos pathos and logos so I just kind of picked out some of the lines and figured how they would work into the paper.
After talking with Nick in our meeting though he and I talked about looking into what the writing is really trying to say to you. We looked at the music and found some of the deeper meanings of the lines of music. One of the main ones was that they are not a very original band they use a lot of the same lines that many other bands that write about anti war do. We also discussed that there song really has no credibility to it. It was based solely on the authors opinions . They used no outside sources in there song at all.
I noticed that I still had a lot of little grammatical mistakes. I really need to work on looking at my paper and finding these little mistakes. I believe that if I were to do this that my writing would in return be a lot better and more of a professional style of writing. Also from what nick was telling me is that I just need to learn to express what I am saying in a more professional way. I agree strongly with him and I hope that over the rest of this semester that I can end up writing a good professional quality paper.
I also found that in my paper I had several confusing and choppy sentences. I think this is because I tend to try and rush through a lot of my writings because I personally don’t enjoy writing very much. I know that I have to do it to pretty much survive in today’s business world, but I don’t enjoy writing. I think that perhaps if I were to slow down and fully think out what I am trying to say and write it down to make since that my papers will also be a lot clearer and easier to read.
The only other thing I can think of that would have made my paper easier is to maybe have picked a better topic to write on. While writing this paper it was really hard for me to come up with topics to elaborate on. The song is a very good song and has some points to touch on but I really, after writing it, found it really hard to gather hardly enough to write such an in depth description of the ethos logos and pathos in the song.
I do think though after having to pretty much rewrite my paper to analyze it better that it turned in to a pretty good paper. I actually ended up liking the changes that I made to it it made it seem a lot more of a good paper than just a typical paper.

Passing Befor Lifes Very Eyes

I really liked this cartoon by Kurt Wolfgang. I think in a sense that he made this cartoon in a religious view. I thought that he made it seem like that he was trying to not discriminate in what happens after death. I for some reason also thought that he was trying to show that smoking was a determining factor in the cartoons characters death. In all the slides he has cigarette in his mouth. I liked the fact of the traveling back and seeing his life as it was. I didn’t really understand the whole end where he starts turning into different things like the dolls and Mickey Mouse.
I kind of want to know if it was really meant to leave you hanging like that at the end. I think that if it was it was a very good way to end. I think that he did a good job by just stopping with out finishing the phrase. Making you in a way think of the fact that it just ends.
I didn’t really get much more form this cartoon other than that I think that he was really trying to have a hidden meaning that smoking was probably the reason behind the mans death. I think that there is something behind the younger vision of the character. I’m not exactly sure but in the since of smoking he looked better and he wasn’t smoking so I think that maybe it could be that he was hinting that he would have had a longer life if perhaps he didn’t smoke.

The Southland

The southland was very interesting to me. This piece by Henry Miller was very descriptive. I liked it. He does a really good job at appealing to all types of audiences with his descriptions of what the south has to offer. The paper had a lot of very good descriptions of places that he had been to and seen personally. To me makes this seem that he knows what he is talking about being that he has seen what he is writing about. I believe that he wants all of us to be able to visit these beautiful places and to forget in a way that we were once in a fight with our own people in the south. I think he is using ethos to persuade us all with his very good descriptions of the places he has been making all of them seem very appealing to who ever may read this article. I personaly have been to "the south" many times to visit family and i can agree that the south does have alot more to offer than the stories of war and killing our own people.
